How do I manually create a DSN?

To create a DSN for 32 bit software on a 32 bit machine or 64 bit software on a 64 bit machine:
 
  1. Open to the Control Panel and go to Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC)
  2.  Click the System DSN tab
  3.  Click Add
  4.  Scroll to the bottom of the list, select SQL Server, and click Finish.
  5.  In the NAME field type: ESPECS40
  6. You may leave the Description field blank.
  7.  In the Server field type Servername\Interspec40 (servername=the name of the computer hosting the e-SPECS databases)
  8.  Click Next
  9.  Accept the defaults on the next screen and click Next
  10.  Accept the defaults on the next screen and click Next
  11.  Accept the defaults on the next screen and click Finish
  12.  Click Test Data Source
 When you receive the message that the tests have completed successfully, click OK on all the open DSN windows


To create a DSN for 32 bit software on a 64 bit machine:
 
  1.  Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
  2. Double click odbcad32.exe
  3.  Click the System DSN tab
  4.  Click Add
  5.  Scroll to the bottom of the list, select SQL Server, and click Finish.
  6.  In the NAME field type: ESPECS40
  7. You may leave the Description field blank.
  8.  In the Server field type Servername\Interspec40 (servername=the name of the computer hosting the e-SPECS databases)
  9.  Click Next
  10.  Accept the defaults on the next screen and click Next
  11.  Accept the defaults on the next screen and click Next
  12.  Accept the defaults on the next screen and click Finish
  13.  Click Test Data Source
 When you receive the message that the tests have completed successfully, click OK on all the open DSN windows
